Dog-Gone Spooky: A Lighthouse Halloween Story and Dog Parade

Learn about the St. Simons Lighthouse’s spookiest occupant through the eyes of the Svendsen family’s beloved dog, Jinx, and bring your own furry friends for a costume contest and dog parade on the Lighthouse lawn! Dogs and humans will hear the story of the Svendsens, Jinx, and the Lighthouse ghost, followed by a dog parade along the Neptune Park waterfront. Images and stories of other dogs (and their humans) who called the St. Simons Lighthouse home will be on display.

Awards will be given for:

• Best in Show (Panel-Judged)
• Best in Show (Crowd’s Choice)
• Keeper’s Best Friend (Dog-Human Pair Costume)
• Jinx, Junior (Local History-Related Costume)
• Waterfront Wheels (Rolling Costume)
• Keeper-In-Training (Under-12 and Dog Pair Costume)

The program will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday, October 30 on the lawn of the St. Simons Lighthouse. Please meet by the Gazebo for a short presentation by Society staff. The parade will take dogs and their humans around the A.W. Jones Heritage Center and back to the Lighthouse lawn, where the program will conclude by 4:00 p.m. Register for $15 per costume entry below. Multiple dogs may be registered together, as long as their costumes are meant to be judged as a group. Entering dogs must be leashed and friendly to both humans and other pets. Spectators are welcome to attend free of charge!
