The Lighthouse Museum is made up of the St. Simons Island Lighthouse and adjoining Keeper’s Dwelling, located on the south end of St. Simons in the Pier Village. Visitors may visit the Keeper’s Dwelling, which houses the Museum exhibits, and climb the 129 steps to the top of the Lighthouse tower.
Please note: Individuals under the age of sixteen must be accompanied by an adult to climb the Lighthouse tower.
Museum Parking
Parking for the St. Simons Lighthouse Museum, is available along Beachview Drive to the west (right) of the A.W. Jones Heritage Center, where Lighthouse Museum tickets are sold, and along 12th Street in front of the Lighthouse. For visitors with limited mobility, there is a drop-off area in front of the A.W. Jones Heritage Center. ADA parking is available on the west side of the A.W. Jones Heritage Center, where there is an accessible pathway to the ramp at the rear of the building.

The World War II Home Front Museum is located in the Historic Coast Guard Station at East Beach. This Museum brings to life Coastal Georgia’s extraordinary contributions during World War II. Through immersive exhibits and interactive experiences, visitors will learn about blimps on anti-submarine patrol, radar training to direct fighter pilots, building Liberty ships to supply troops overseas, and much more.
Museum Parking
Parking for the World War II Home Front Museum is located directly in front of the Main Station. Please note that the entrance to the museum is through the Boat House, located directly behind the Main Station.
Should the lot be full, additional parking is available in the next lot for East Beach.

Last tickets are sold at 4:30 p.m. each day to allow adequate time to experience the museum.
Weather Events
For safety purposes, The Lighthouse Tower may be closed during periods of inclement weather. It will reopen as soon as the weather hazard has passed.
Holiday Closures
The St. Simons Lighthouse Museum, World War II Home Front Museum, and Museum Stores are closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, and Easter Sunday.
The Society Administrative Offices are closed all major holidays.

Located on the Lighthouse campus, the Heritage Center houses the Society’s archives, an extensive research library available by appointment, exhibits, Event Hall, Museum Store, and Administrative Offices.

Parking

A.W. Jones Heritage Center
The A.W. Jones Heritage Center is wheelchair accessible via a ramp on the rear side of the building, facing the Lighthouse. See the campus map Click here to view the Campus Map. Although the historic brick pathways surrounding the Lighthouse can be uneven, there is a pathway through the courtyard that connects the A.W. Jones Heritage Center (where Lighthouse Museum tickets are purchased) and the rear entrance ramp to the St. Simons Lighthouse Museum. Elevator access to the second floor is available.
St. Simons Lighthouse Museum
The historic Keeper’s Dwelling consists of two floors. Only the first floor is wheelchair accessible via a ramp at the rear of the Lighthouse Tower.
There is a book containing numerous images and panels available to view at the docent station.
For those who cannot, or do not wish to, climb the 129 steps to the top of the Lighthouse, we offer a 3D virtual climb on a tablet available at the docent station. Click through the step-by-step journey and enjoy the majestic views at the top.
This tour will also give you exclusive access to an area that is not open to the public: the lens room which is meticulously maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard and Auxiliary.
World War II Home Front Museum
Both historic buildings at the World War II Home Front Museum are wheelchair accessible. The entrance to the museum is through The Boathouse, the structure directly behind the Main Station. There is an ADA compliant sidewalk leading from the front of the Main Station. All galleries in the Boat House are on the ground floor.
After you tour the Boat House, you will then proceed to the Main Station which has a wheelchair accessible ramp on the right side of the back of the building. All galleries in the Main Station are on a single floor.
A wheelchair is available at each site upon request.
We welcome all guests who require a service dog inside our buildings and Museums and follow ADA’s Regulations. (Please view ‘ADA Requirements: Service Animals’ website prior to your visit.)
If it is not obvious what service your service dog provides, please be prepared to answer the following two questions allowable under ADA Requirements: Service Animals:
1) Is your service dog required because of a disability?
2) What work or task has the dog been trained to perform?
